Dani Christine - Principal Designer

Dani has had a passion for art since she saw her first Picasso in elementary school. This single moment sparked a lifelong joy and pursuit of all things creative. Drawing and playing music through high school, she studied Graphic Design, before earning a Bachelor’s Degree in Child Development, getting married and becoming a stay at home mom.

However, she has never been able to leave her creative roots far behind.  When Dani and her family moved to Portland, Oregon, in 2000, they fell in love with the house they purchased because they saw it as a “blank canvas” with endless possibilities.  This was the first time she turned her attention to interior design and has continued to paint, DIY, and sew her way through any project she can dream up.

Along the way Dani started her own workroom, TailorMade Designs, providing custom made items for the home to Portland interior designers and private clients.

Her talents have also allowed her to reach a global audience through blogging. Storypiece began from a belief that a home should not only be functional and beautiful, but it’s an authentic reflection of the people that live there. Through blogging Dani has continued to pursue a creative lifestyle, as well as teaching and encouraging others to do the same. Storypiece has been included in Redbook, Real Simple, and Buzzfeed and has provided her the opportunity to work with national brands such as Lowe’s, LampsPlus, GE Lighting, and Kroger. Most recently, Dani has provided design insight for Redfin

In 2018 Dani decided to take her love of interior design to the next level by going back to school and earning her Masters Certification from the Heritage School of Interior Design. While going through this intensive program, Dani’s enthusiasm for interior design that maximizes functionality in a gorgeous way became clear and a new career was born.

Upon graduating, Dani launched her own residential design company, Portland Design House. She has said that her favorite part of blogging is connecting with readers and seeing how they make something they’ve read their own. Now Dani does that in person, helping her clients design and create a meaningful home with stylish functionality they are excited to come home to.

When not in the studio you will find Dani at the beach, eating donuts, or spending time with her husband and 2 kids. In an ideal world, she will be doing all three.
